HAMPTON COUNTY — A two-boat collision on the Savannah River claimed one life and sent three others to the hospital Sunday evening. The incident was centered near Stokes Bluff Landing in Hampton County, close to the Georgia state line.

What We Know

According to the Effingham County Sheriff's Office, emergency crews responded around 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, after reports of a crash near Boykin Sandbar in Effingham County, Georgia. The search and rescue operation launched from Stokes Bluff Landing on the South Carolina side.

The Hampton County Sheriff's Office confirmed deputies were assisting in the response.

By Sunday night, authorities recovered the body of the missing person from the river. The victim's identity has not yet been released. Three other individuals involved in the crash were transported to the hospital; the severity of their injuries remains unknown.
